20 Years of Magic

“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”

Being a proud member of the Harry Potter Generation, I couldn’t let today pass without acknowledging the fact that very first Harry Potter book was published twenty years ago! Twenty years. Wow, it doesn’t feel like it should be that long, but I’m so glad that after all this time, Harry Potter is still going strong!

I have fond memories of my Mom, brother and I piling in the car year after year, excitedly heading to Target to pick up the newest installment to the series on release day. There was something about the build of excitement, walking into the store, turning the corner and BAM! There’s a whole end cap absolutely packed full of the newest Harry Potter book.

Harry Potter has been way more than just a book series to me and it has held a very special place in my heart, and will forever. By the time the last several books were released, I was the same age as the characters which turned out to be one of the neatest reading experiences I’ve ever had, or probably ever will. Because of that, I feel like I grew up with the characters.

Year after year, we…

visited the cupboard under the stairs,
snuck around the Hogwarts castle under the invisibility cloak,
giggled as we witnesses Seamus cause some sort of explosion in the middle of class,
became members of Dumbledore’s Army,
and ultimately, battled evil alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione.

And that’s not even a fraction of the adventures.

Harry Potter is a world of more than just fictional characters; it taught its readers the importance of friendship, loyalty, bravery and love. They will always be more than just books to me. I can’t thank J.K. Rowling enough for creating the wizarding world and sharing these stories. After all, she said it best, “the stories we love best do live in us forever.”

And with that, I’m signing off to spend the rest of my evening curled up with my book in the wonderful world that is Harry Potter. See you around Hogwarts! After all, September 1st will be here before you know it, have your books and wands at the ready!

“Mischief Managed.”
